I thought for Dave's birthday I would try my hand at a fondant cake. With Megan's help we created a beautiful Superman confection for the birthday boy. He LOVED it!

The Bishopric (our judges) said that they hoped putting the temple inside of the youth (or eating it) would help the youth get inside the temple. Very clever. And great job to all the youth of our ward!

Tributes to a Remarkable Woman

Everyone sure did love our Grandma. Here are some of the beautiful flowers her friends sent.










We really were blessed to have Grandma Lambert as the matriarch of our family. She was kind and loving, always serving others, talented, a faithful genealogist, and a stalwart member of the Church. Speakers at her funeral repeated over and over again how the one thing she wanted was to see all of us stay strong and active in the Church so that we can be together forever. I can think of no better way to honor the legacy she and Grandpa left us than to do just that -- make sure I am there with them, together forever!

The Great Circle of Life

Yesterday my sweet grandma, Kathryn Harmon Lambert, passed away. She was a wonderful, righteous woman and we will miss her very much. But, I am grateful to know that she is out of pain and reunited with Grandpa and Aunt Sherri.



While Grandma was leaving this mortal existence, Lisa and Nathan were welcoming another little life into the world. Their baby girl was born yesterday. She is beautiful and healthy and we are excited to have this new addition in our family.

Days like yesterday make me so grateful for my knowledge of the gospel and the plan of salvation. Birth and death are just two steps along the pathway to eternal life. It doesn't mean that I will miss Grandma any less but I find great comfort knowing that I will see her again because we are a forever family.

Weekend Getaway

Dave and I took off this last weekend just to get away.

We spent Friday night in Hurricane, Utah (that's Hurr-i-can) where we stopped in at the local museum. After visiting with Chatty Cathy and hearing her life story we discovered a bit of our own life story right there in the museum. Dave's Grandma Murphy is from Hurricane and her genealogy line is illustrated on the walls.

The way I understand it there were these two families that settled Hurricane: the Workmans and the Hintons. They both had large families but had only one child each intermarry. Dave comes through that line. This is a picture of his Great-Grandfather William Hinton and Great-Grandmother Mary Workman Hinton.



There is also a quilt on display in the museum that Mary made, circa 1960. A placard says that the "H" pattern was her favorite pattern. I think one of these days I need to make us an "H" pattern quilt -- "H" for Huffaker & Hinckley!



After our genealogical discoveries, we headed off to St. George where I made Dave stop at the Zion Outlets. Because what is a vacation without a little shopping?

Then on to Las Vegas where we met up with Dave's brother Matt and Family. We spent Saturday night in the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino right there on the Fremont Street Experience. We booked the cheap room but when we checked in they upgraded us to the Scarlet Suite in the Gold Tower for free! Now that was fun (even though the view from our window was the roof of the casino)! I really like expensive hotels...





(They have a waterslide into the swimming pool and the slide goes through a tank filled with sharks and other dangerous fish. Too bad the pool was closed by the time we checked in so we didn't have a chance to swim with the ferocious sea creatures.)

Spoke Too Soon

I know. Yesterday a beautiful little crocus. Today snow. Errr.

Have you noticed this winter how half the time the weatherman forecasts snow it doesn't come, but instead graces us with its presence on the days he promises a clear day. Brother Eubank was definitely NOT wearing a white coat last night - it was gray.

Spring is on its way!
